12 Prison Inventions That Make Macgyver Look Like A Pussy

These inventions prove that with the right motivation and endless amounts of time, a prison inmate can create practically anything.

1. Inmates from Germany made this shotgun from iron bedposts and lead from curtain tape. The gun was then ignited with AA batteries and a broken light bulb. This is why you can’t have nice things Germany.

2. This 16 meter rope was fashioned from bed sheets and dish towels in a failed attempt to escape from the sixth floor of a prison.

3. Inmates can fashion their own immersion heaters using razor blades which allows them to distill alcohol.

4. Germans are great at engineering and prisoners are no exception. Two inmates in a Hamburg prison fashioned a ladder from the steel rails of bookshelves to make their successful escape.

5. Using segmented extension rods and rope made from leather and string, two inmates made a grappling hook and escaped from Ludwigsburg Prison in Germany. They used the hook to successfully scale two prison walls.

6. This ‘homemade’ knuckle duster was created from a rasp which was probably stolen from a prison workshop in 1993.

7. It is unclear whether this metal instrument, found in a Hamburg prison in 1997, was a weapon or built to push away barbed wire during an escape attempt.

8. Radio transmitters like this one are regularly installed in guard rooms by prisoners to prepare for cell searches.

9. This radio receiver was found in one prisoner’s encyclopedia in the seventies.

10. This frightening weapon was found in a prisoner’s cell during a room inspection. The inmate had fashioned a metal saw to a wooden club for better handling.

11. A rather realistic looking dummy pistol was discovered in an empty milk packet in Stammheim Prison, Germany, after a fellow prisoner tipped off jailers in 1988.

12. This tattoo needle was made from a toothbrush handle, a ballpoint pen and an electric motor.
