Apple Announces The iPhone 4S

Apple has destroyed all rumors of an iPhone 5 release with the announcement of the iPhone ’4S’ in today’s press conference. The device has the exact same look and shape as the previous iPhone and has a few new additions including the groundbreaking new ‘Siri’ feature. The 4S 16GB model will sell for $199, 32GB for $299 and 64GB for $399 with a two year contract (prices in USD). The device will launch on the 14th of October with pre-orders beginning on the 7th. The device will be available in both Black and White.

So, What’s New?

Improved Camera: The 4S will include an 8 megapixel camera that takes pictures at 3264 x 2448 resolution – 60% more than the previous model which had 5MP. Back-lighting has been improved to give 73% more illumination than before. Also, with a 5 element lens and IR filter photos will be 30% sharper than before. The 4S also features a very fast shot-to-shot time of 0.5 seconds which is the fastest in the market.
A5 Dual Core Processor – This is the same processor found on the iPad 2 and according to Apple, the chip is twice as fast as the A4 which was inside the previous model. This new-found speed will provide a massive 7X graphical improvement over the last model. Web browsing on Safari will see increased speeds due to faster page rendering and gaming will be much smoother.
Upgraded Data Speeds: The iPhone 4s will have increased download and upload speeds – Downloads of 14.4Mbps and uploads at 5.8 Mbps on an HSDPA service
Video Recording: The 4S will support 1080p video recording. Video stabilization and noise reduction features have also been added.
iOS 5: The device will launch on Apple’s new iOS 5. This is where most of the hardcore new features will come from. However, most of these features will also be available on older iOS devices as iOS 5 is compatible with the iPhone 4, 4S, 3GS, iPod Touch 4G and iPod Touch 3G.
Siri: This is a groundbreaking new feature that has been in the works for a long time. Siri will allow complete voice control over your device and will act as your ‘assistant’. Siri will be able to do almost anything the user can but without the user touching the device. From full text messaging to changing appointment times – Siri can do it all! Siri can understand your requests and reply to you with the information required.
