DICE: We’re Pushing the Playstation 3 Limits With Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3 is looking very nice, minus the glitches, on the Playstation 3. DICE has stated they will be pushing the limits of the console with the full release. Although some unhappy fans believe this is just ‘damage control’ for those disappointed with the beta, we think not. The campaign gameplay which was shown off recently displayed the surprising beauty of the console version, all driven with the power of the Frostbite 2 engine.
In an interview with the Playstation blog, DICE Producer Patrick Liu revealed the secret behind this power:
“That’s Frostbite 2 and our new streaming technology. We didn’t have that in Frostbite 1, it enables us to build bigger maps, whether they’re interior maps or open exterior sandbox environments. We wanted to push the scale as much as possible, and our new streaming technology is essential for that.”

“Everything counts into that: the scale costs performance, destruction, animation, special effects…those are all the things we cram in there,” he continued. “I feel really good about where we ended up with on the PS3.”
