Plot: Sam (Shia Lebeouf) has a new girlfriend (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) and has graduated college. He moved in with her. She has a job, and Sam has yet to find one. When his parents come to visit, he is still in the process of trying to get a job. After being in an Ivy League school, you would think he can get a job easily. He could, but he wanted a job that mattered (after all, he saved the world twice didn’t he?). Over and over he would say he wants to matter in this world. Finally he gets an anonymous recommendation for a job at a multi-billion dollar company. Sam ends up getting a job in the mail room at the big Aerospace company. Sam increasingly gets jealous of how is girlfriend’s rich boss (Patrick Dempsey) flirts with her (this will be very important in the rest of the movie). The Autobots have been helping the United States solve world problems (like raiding an illegal Iran nuclear site). The Autobots soon go to the Chernobyl site, and learn about a ship that crashed on the dark side of the moon. The ship holds an Autobot, Sentinel Prime, that only Optimus Prime can revive. Sentinel Prime is Optimus’s good friend and mentor. Sentinel Prime has the main pillars to start the space bridge (the space bridge can bring back their planet of Cybertron, it can bend time and space. It is a portal. Only Setinal Prime can activate it). Sentinel Prime has 5 pillars, and there are hundreds. The race is on for Optimus and the Autobots to get to the dark side of the moon and revive Sentinel Prime before the Decepticons get there. That is only the beginning, the storyline has much more to it (if I told you much more, I would spoil it for you).
Opinion: I expected this movie to be a disappointing, after the second (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) did not have a good storyline. Megan Fox was gone, and I saw that as a speed bump for the writers. Can they even make a decent storyline with this issue in the way? Well, they sure as hell proved me wrong. This movie has the greatest storyline of any Transformers movie, and one of the greatest storylines of any movie I’ve ever seen. For the first time, characters from all sides (humans, Autobots, and Decepticons) changed sides. This happened so many times in the movie, I didn’t know who would be switching sides next. Not only was the storyline great, but the amount of action in the movie was more exciting than other Transformers movies. The action was accompanied by some kick-ass music from Steve Jablonsky, which really helped the excitement of the battle scenes. Of course, there were a few jokes to keep you laughing at certain parts of the movie. I like how the little robot from the second (he now has a sidekick) served a more important part to the movie, not just to crack jokes.
There were some negatives in this movie too. Despite a few new characters, things were a bit repetitive at the beginning of the movie. Sam’s parents were the same as usual, Sam is pissed off easily, and Optimus said a few lines that were supposed to be inspiring and motivating, but I just didn’t feel it. Despite those few minor negatives, this will be the best, or at least in the top 3, Summer Movies of 2011.
